Warner Bros. has unveiled the first official teaser trailer for The Conjuring spinoff, The Nun. The Conjuring 2 introduced Valak to the audiences as an entity terrorizing Elaine Warren(Vera Farmiga) with horrific visions of her husband Ed’s (Patrick Wilson) death. Valak was an ancient being that simply chose the monstrous nun’s guise to scare Lorraine. But the spinoff makes it almost clear that Valak has used that form in the past.
The Nun is set in 1952, decades before it’s encounter with the Warrens. In the spinoff, the demon wreaks havoc in a monastery in Russia, a secluded setting which makes perfect sense for Valak to use the nun form while interacting with others. This was hinted in 2017’s Annabelle Creation through a quick reference thereby tying it to the Conjuring universe.
Let’s have a look at the official synopsis below:
When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
The Nun will hit the screens from September 7, 2018.
